TC 222: Reboot - Juicing

In this episode, host Robin Masiewicz discusses the benefits of juicing with regulars Jamie and Gloria, and discusses her plans to start a 25-day reboot following The Reboot with Joe Juice Diet: Lose Weight, Get Healthy and Feel Amazing by Joe Cross, producer of the movie Fat Sick & Nearly Dead. Robin juices daily now, and she describes how it provides her with higher energy levels and helps her to prevent getting sick during peak periods at her flower shop, Flowers for You in Riverside, California.

We previously discussed juicing in episode 207 back in May 2014 with guest David Shay who went on a 60-day juice fast to improve his health.

Since Joe’s movie came out in 2010, juicing as a means to improving your overall health has really caught on. Many people have gone through a 5, 10, or 15 day reboot and had great results. Joe has worked with nutritionists and medical practitioners to refine the program, and he’s written several books on the subject to help people integrate juicing into their daily lives. You can find out more information at www.rebootwithjoe.com.

Joe Cross discusses the health benefits of juicing

Below you’ll find links to Joe’s latest books, and two recommended juicers. We have used both models.

The Breville Juice Fountain is a centrifugal juicer that uses a spinning basket to shred fruits and vegetables using a sharp disc, pushing the juice through a fine strainer using centrifugal force. It’s fast and easy to use, and cleans up fairly easily. The chute is large enough to juice whole apples or stalks of celery without having to cut them up first. This model runs about $150 and is a good choice if you are just getting into juicing. Joe Cross is sponsored by Breville, so you’ll see their juicers in his videos.

The Omega VRT350 is a masticating juicer that protects and maintains healthy enzymes, prevents oxidation and allows juice to be stored up to 72 hours without degradation. The VRT’s dual stage juice processing system extracts the maximum amount of juice from fruits, vegetables, leafy greens, and even wheat grass. Since the chute is smaller you do have to cut fruit and veggies into smaller pieces. This type of juicer costs about $325 but does give you greater output for the same amount of fruit and vegetables so there is less waste. This model is the juicer we currently use on a daily basis.

Joe Cross from “Fat, Sick, & Nearly Dead” helps others reboot with his juice diet. The Mean Green juice is a staple in our family.

Just published! Over 50 juice recipes plus smoothies, salads, snacks, and entrees.

Breville BJE200XL Compact Juice Fountain 700-watt juice extractor. Compact design takes up less space.

The Omega VRT350 vertical masticating style juicer features the high efficiency of a masticating style juicer in a vertical design. We use this juicer daily and it works great.
