TC 217: Zen tasking in a multi-tasking world

In tonight’s episode, host Robin Masiewicz and regular guests Jamie and Gloria continue their discussion about learning to focus on one thing at a time and doing tasks more consciously. Robin talks about Zen Tasking and eliminating distractions. The group also talks about Zen driving, hypermiling, and the advent of self-driving cars.

Some of the key points include:
  • Focus on one thing at a time
  • Finish what you start and don’t let interruptions interfere (e.g. turn off your cell phone or just don’t respond to emails and text messages until you’re ready)
Zen eating
  • Eating slower helps you to eat less and feel full faster
Prioritizing
  • Make a list of priorities for the day (as many as you want), then cut it in half, then out of the half remaining, pick three.
Managing your commitments
  • Learn to say “no” and not over-commit your time
Schedule time for yourself
  • Schedule some “me” time just like you would an appointment or meeting
